The James Bond Island tour in Phang Nga Bay is one of the most iconic day trips from Phuket. Phang Nga Bay is hundreds of limestone karsts rising vertically straight out of the emerald water, mangrove lagoons, sea caves and floating Muslim villages. The headline stop is the tiny 20-metre Ko Tapu rock made famous by the 1974 Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun.
The route starts with a hotel pickup and a roughly one-hour drive to the Phang Nga pier on the mainland north of Phuket. From the pier you depart either on a speedboat (faster, more dynamic) or on a classic long-tail boat with a sunshade (gentler, more authentic, perfect for families and senior guests). We default to the long-tail: the bay is calm, there is no rush, and the ride itself is part of the experience.
The first stop is the cave system of Ko Panak or Ko Hong, which you enter on inflatable canoes with a local paddler. The paddler does the work — you lie in the canoe while he poles you through narrow tunnels in the rock into hidden inner lagoons (hong = room in Thai). Inside: stalactite walls, mangrove roots, monkeys, tropical birds and absolute silence. It is one of the most powerful natural moments in all of Thailand.
The beach has souvenir stalls and viewpoints onto the Ko Tapu rock itself. The stop lasts 40–50 minutes — enough for a walk, photos from multiple angles and a break. Fresh coconuts and Thai sweets are sold here.
The peak of the day is lunch at the Ko Panyi floating Muslim village. The village is entirely built on stilts in the sea at the foot of a giant cliff; the residents are descendants of Malay fishermen who settled here more than 200 years ago. Lunch is Thai-Muslim cuisine: seafood, rice, noodles, vegetables, tropical fruit. Afterwards you can walk through the narrow alleys, see the school and the unique floating football pitch.
On the way back the boat usually stops at a bat cave or a swimming beach (depending on the tide). Return to Phuket is around 16:00–17:00 followed by hotel drop-off. The tour works well for kids from 4 and for senior guests: no long walks, stable boats and shade from the sun.
Phang Nga Bay is sheltered from ocean swell by the mainland and the islands, so the tour runs year-round — rough conditions here are very rare. The dry season (November–April) gives the best visibility and photos; the rainy season (May–October) means fewer tourists, lower prices and brighter mangrove greenery.
Long-tail is slow and smooth, no wave impact, with a sunshade — perfect for families with young kids, pregnant guests and seniors. Speedboat is faster (saves about 1.5 hours) and adds an extra stop, but the ride is harder on waves.
Swimming next to Ko Tapu is banned by the National Park. Swimming happens on a separate beach on the way back or inside the lagoons — calm and safe.

Hotel pickup and drop-off anywhere in Phuket is included in every tour. The day before departure we message you on WhatsApp to confirm the weather and the exact pickup time. A licensed minivan or sedan picks the group up directly at the hotel or villa reception and drives you to the start point — pier, park gate or meeting point. Driving time depends on your area: Patong, Kamala, Surin 30–40 min, Karon and Kata 25–30 min, Rawai and Chalong 15–20 min, Bang Tao and Mai Khao 50–60 min. If your hotel sits outside the standard zone, we agree on the surcharge or an alternative meeting point in advance, no surprises on the day.
In the rainy season (May–October) Phuket downpours are usually short and local: they pass within 30–60 minutes. Sea routes run on the leeward side, so even with strong wind the protected lagoons and bays remain safe for swimming and snorkelling. If the Thai marine authority officially closes departures, we warn you a day in advance and either reschedule the tour for a convenient date or refund 100% with no penalties. On land tours rain barely affects the program — we simply reorder stops so the peak of the shower happens in a cafe or under a temple roof.

For sea trips we recommend private speedboats: they ride softer over waves, have a toilet and a sunshade, and the speed is adjustable. For land tours we use an air-conditioned minivan with child seats on request. If your group includes a toddler under 4, a pregnant guest, or someone with back issues, blood pressure or motion sickness — please mention it at booking: we arrange a private format, soften the timing and suggest less intense versions of the program without losing the highlights.
Payment options: cash on the day (THB, USD, EUR at market rate), Thai bank transfer, PromptPay, Russian card via intermediary, or USDT TRC-20. We do not normally take prepayment — the tour is booked on trust and you pay on the day before departure. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start. All sea tours into Thai Marine National Park zones (Phi Phi, Similan, Surin, Phang Nga) require a passport or a high-quality colour copy — without an ID the park police will not let you onto the islands. Land tours do not require a passport. For air excursions outside Thailand (Singapore) the passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of return. We recommend making a passport copy on day one and keeping it separate from the original. All other documents — insurance, hotel booking — are already in our system, you do not need to re-share anything.
