Cheow Lan Lake in Khao Sok National Park is the most impressive natural place within 200 km of Phuket. Khao Sok is the oldest tropical rainforest on the planet — about 160 million years old, older than the Amazon. Inside the park is the artificial Cheow Lan Lake, formed in the 1980s by the Ratchaprapha dam: the water flooded the valley between karsts up to 960 metres tall, creating a landscape like China's Guilin but without the crowds.
The 1-day (12 hours) is an express visit: early start, long drive, 4–5 hours on the lake, return at night. The 2-day with overnight in floating bungalows is a completely different depth of experience: you sleep to jungle sounds, see sunrise over the lake and join the morning safari cruise when monkeys and sometimes elephants come out for water.
The drive from Phuket to Ratchaprapha pier is about 3 hours on the mainland (across the Phang Nga bridge, Surat Thani province). From the pier 40 minutes by long-tail boat past the cliffs to the floating camp on the water. The camp is dozens of bamboo huts on pontoons with minimal facilities: a bed with mosquito net, shared shower and toilet on shore or floating, restaurant in the centre. Electricity only in the evening from a generator, no air-con, no internet. That is part of the magic — you are genuinely off-grid for one night.
canoeing through narrow channels between cliffs, swimming in fresh water, jungle trek to Nam Talu cave (dry season only, regulated since 2014 after a flooding incident), and a long-tail safari cruise looking for wildlife. The park is home to gibbons, macaques, langurs, elephants, deer, monitor lizards; tiger and bear tracks are still recorded. Real chances of seeing an elephant by the water, especially on the early morning cruise of the 2-day format.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner included — Thai home cooking in the floating restaurant: rice, stewed vegetables, chicken, lake fish, fruit. Bottled water provided, but we recommend bringing your own reusable bottle — there is too much plastic on the lake. Showers and toilets are shared; shower water is straight from the lake, warm by day, cool in the evening.
Long trousers and closed shoes for trekking (jungle leeches and mosquitoes), DEET repellent, torch, light jacket (the evening on the water is cool), swimwear, towel, change of clothes for the night. Alcohol is not banned but is not sold at camp — bring your own if you want.
1-day — for tight schedules and guests OK to skip the sunrise. 2-day — for nature lovers, couples, families with kids from 6, photographers. Not recommended for serious back issues, pregnancy or guests over 70 — the suspension bridges and canoeing need basic mobility.
Year-round. Dry season (Nov–Apr): water level lower, more cliffs and waterfalls visible, safer trekking. Rainy season (May–Oct): emerald jungle, powerful waterfalls, the lake becomes a mirror after a short morning rain — best for photography.
If you can — 2 days, no question. The morning elephant safari and sunrise over the lake are the whole point of Cheow Lan. 1 day is a compromise when time is tight.
Basic: bamboo hut with a mattress and mosquito net, shared shower/toilet on shore, electricity only in the evening, no air-con, no Wi-Fi. This is eco, not hotel. For comfort upgrade to premium bungalows with private bathroom and fan.
Wild Asian elephants live in the park but are shy. Real chances at the morning safari of the 2-day tour. No guarantees — this is wild nature, not a zoo.
Lots of mosquitoes, especially in the evening — repellent is mandatory. Leeches only on jungle treks, they fall off on their own and are not dangerous. Long trousers and socks solve it.
Not recommended: long drive, suspension bridges, possible wave impact on the boat, distance from hospitals. Pick a less active tour.
Yes, water is clean, fresh, warm. There are catfish and rare small snakes in the lake but they avoid humans. Swimming near the bungalows and in sheltered coves is completely safe.
Hotel pickup and drop-off anywhere in Phuket is included in every tour. The day before departure we message you on WhatsApp to confirm the weather and the exact pickup time. A licensed minivan or sedan picks the group up directly at the hotel or villa reception and drives you to the start point — pier, park gate or meeting point. Driving time depends on your area: Patong, Kamala, Surin 30–40 min, Karon and Kata 25–30 min, Rawai and Chalong 15–20 min, Bang Tao and Mai Khao 50–60 min. If your hotel sits outside the standard zone, we agree on the surcharge or an alternative meeting point in advance, no surprises on the day.
In the rainy season (May–October) Phuket downpours are usually short and local: they pass within 30–60 minutes. Sea routes run on the leeward side, so even with strong wind the protected lagoons and bays remain safe for swimming and snorkelling. If the Thai marine authority officially closes departures, we warn you a day in advance and either reschedule the tour for a convenient date or refund 100% with no penalties. On land tours rain barely affects the program — we simply reorder stops so the peak of the shower happens in a cafe or under a temple roof.
Most of our tours work for families with children from 4 years and for senior guests. For sea trips we recommend private speedboats: they ride softer over waves, have a toilet and a sunshade, and the speed is adjustable. For land tours we use an air-conditioned minivan with child seats on request. If your group includes a toddler under 4, a pregnant guest, or someone with back issues, blood pressure or motion sickness — please mention it at booking: we arrange a private format, soften the timing and suggest less intense versions of the program without losing the highlights.
Payment options: cash on the day (THB, USD, EUR at market rate), Thai bank transfer, PromptPay, Russian card via intermediary, or USDT TRC-20. We do not normally take prepayment — the tour is booked on trust and you pay on the day before departure. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start. Within 12 hours we keep 50% to cover the already-booked boat, guide and park fees. In case of bad weather, confirmed illness or genuine force majeure the refund is 100% with no deductions. All payment details are sent in WhatsApp the day before — no surprise charges.
All sea tours into Thai Marine National Park zones (Phi Phi, Similan, Surin, Phang Nga) require a passport or a high-quality colour copy — without an ID the park police will not let you onto the islands. Land tours do not require a passport. For air excursions outside Thailand (Singapore) the passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of return. We recommend making a passport copy on day one and keeping it separate from the original. All other documents — insurance, hotel booking — are already in our system, you do not need to re-share anything.
All our guides and drivers speak Russian as the default. English is available on request: we work with certified Thai guides who hold international licences when a guest in the group does not speak Russian. For mixed groups (Russian-speaking + foreigners) the commentary is delivered in both languages. All operational chats run on WhatsApp in your preferred language — no friction with the manager, driver or guide. Mandarin, Korean, German and French guides are available on request, the surcharge is confirmed at booking time.
